'I loved working with John Malkovich': interview with actress Jessica Boone
Cinema / Interview - 31 October 2019
Jessica Boone works in anime, theatre and tv series.
You worked also in theatre (“Macbeth”, “Venus in Fur”). Who is the experience and what’s first funny episode that you remember?
I run The Prague Shakespeare Company with my husband, Guy Roberts. We partner with The National Theater of the Czech Republic and also tour a lot internationally - last year alone we toured to the US, Egypt, Quatr and Italy. We play in repertory so there is a different performance on every night which is a tradition I love. If a show is successful it could play for years which really allows you time to get to explore the characters on much deeper levels. We had a performance of Macbeth during Unlocked shooting so Michael kept referring to me as Lady Macbeth on set. After a particularly long night he leaned over to me and quoted: “You lack the season of all natures… sleep.” I think we could all relate that night! Lady Macbeth and Vanda in ‘Venus in Fur’ have been two of my favorite and longest running roles. It’s not every day one gets to feel that power, say those words and embody such creatures. Now, take that and add music to it and I am in absolute heaven - which is something I do when I perform Shakespeare speeches as part of Patrick Doyle’s Music of Shakespeare - a wonderful concert of Patrick’s music from Kenneth Branagh’s Shakespeare films underscored by a full orchestra and choir - goosebumps, unreal. We’ve toured it several places and each time we are working with a different orchestra and choir so its a bonus to get to collaborate with so many amazing musicians around the world.
