Q. You are working on the musical Wicked. Can you tell us about your character?

Q. What do you like most about this story that mixes fantasy and realism?

A. I think a lot of people identify a lot with wicked as it’s a heart warming story of friendship and acceptance. Seeing love in others and the power which all this brings. I think our modern day world could use a bit of this. And so I think that’s what makes the show so successful as it’s relatable. Although we are in this fantasy world which most people grew up with from the wizard of Oz there are many parallels to our modern day world.

Q. The musical will become a movie: do you love the musical genre at the cinema?

A. I am all for the musical genre at the cinema. As I think it brings people to the theatre who haven't necessarily been before. We need this to keep theatre alive and happening. I was lucky enough to be part of the Les Miserables Movie as one of the students and it was such an unbelievable experience. It brings awareness to another art form and I don’t think that can be anything but positive.

Q. How long does it take to prepare for a musical?

A. Most shows rehearse for 4 weeks and then open. If it’s a new original show it can be longer. It all really depends on the production. I have rehearsed some shows in less than a week and that was scary. Rehearsals can be hard and tiring to learn the whole show in such a short amount of time. But it’s all worth it on the end.

Q. You worked on The Book of Mormon. How was the experience of satire?

A. The Book Of Mormon is a show unlike any other. The nature of the material and the language and comedy used make it unique.
We had people who walked out of the show in disgust but it’s all done in jest. The show is hilarious and it’s just pretend. It’s not making fun of anything nastily it’s done in a fun way. I think if you can’t laugh at things in life then that’s a shame. It is also a form of escapism and a story and that’s what theatre is supposed to be. The show is a huge global success because of the satire, controversy and comedy used.

Q. What advice would you suggest to a young person who wants to approach the profession?

A. The advice I would give to a young actor is work hard and be a sponge. I think I’m always learning about how to be an actor whether that be from other actors I’m working with or different shows and rehearsal processes. Don’t be afraid to always challenge yourself and take in as much as you can. The profession is hard work both physically but also mentally and I’m not sure that’s something people are prepared for. You will he out of acting work at times. You will have times when you doubt yourself. You will struggle. But you will have the best time doing a job that you love. Also be kind to all you meet. There community is one of the most inclusive and friendly places you could ever be part of. And kindness goes along way. Also you never know who the people you meet will become.

Q. What hobbies do you have?

A. My main hobbies are my love of travelling I like to see as many places as I possibly can. The world has so much culture and life and I want to experience as much of it as possible. I also have a keen interest in fitness I go to the gym nearly everyday. I work with a personal trainer sometimes and try o keep on top of my health. I think it’s very important for our profession.  I also love a tv series and I love meeting up with friends and I do love a night out. I also have an unhealthy obsession with dinosaurs.

Q. What is your next project?

A. I have only just really started wicked. But I also like to sing at many cabarets and events. I am also workshopping and doing the first staged concert performance of a new musical called ‘Wardrobe’.  A true story of how a soldier hid from the enemy lines as part of World War 2 in a wardrobe.
