Jesús Lloveras is one of the stars of the movie Apocalypse Z, one of the most watched streaming movies this year. The actor has also worked on episodes of Money Heist, the film Marco Polo, and directed La corriente and Trueque.

Can you tell us how the filming of the movie  in which you play the Spanish Prime Minister went?

It was a great filming experience. In this case I shot everything on a set and everything was very much steady, straight forward and under control. I had never played a prime minister or president before, and it was interesting performing a character like this. I had plenty of references, of course, and I tried to use a similar use of the tempo and melody to it to make it believable and convincing when delivering the speech. Carles Torrens’ production was fantastic.

The movie has been very successful in streaming. What do you think is the reason for that? Could one of the motivations be that the apocalypse is similar to what happened years ago with the Covid-19 epidemic?

Being an Amazon production gives the movie a great head start. Also who doesn’t like a good zombie thriller? Talking about how extreme a virus could affect society is a great idea and releasing the film after what we went through recently combining it with a personal intimate drama sets the film for success. Also, I believe that director Carles Torrens is very talented and used all those elements perfectly. Every department gave the Apocalypse Z their very best and it shows.

You worked on La casa de papel. How did you deal with the success of the series?

La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) was an extraordinary experience. I love it when projects that I’ve been involved have this impact across the world. I am humbled and always very happy to be involved in big projects like this one that keep pushing me forward in my career. I keep great memories working there with so many talented people and Animals! I remember in one of the scenes with lead actress Ursula Corberó we were shooting with an elephant. Every take the elephant would also go to first position and repeat the same action. It was amazing!

You have also worked in the theater. What is the text you like the most? And the one you would like to perform?

Yes, I am a stage trained actor and of course love Shakespeare. Everything you need to know is in the text and it is hard. I love challenges and working Shakespeare is definitely a big one. I would love work in any Shakespeare text. I did work on a Midsummers night Dream production but would also love to be part of a Romeo and Juliet production. I worked in a Brian Friel play, Lovers, when I studied in New York. I would also love to do it again.

What does the future hold for Jesus Lloveras?

I directed my first feature film, Ibiza Blue, a couple of years ago, and last year we did a very successful film festival tour. Ibiza Blue had a theatrical release in Spain and several streaming platforms. It has distribution in south America and other countries across the glove and hopefully very soon also in the US. I am combining more and more being in front and behind the camera and recently I was the first assistant director for a new show of a big studio that will be release in March. I will work hard to have not only more big acting opportunities, but also directing opportunities. I loved the experience of my directorial debut, and I can wait to be in the position of having the maximum creative responsibility in a production. Also during 2025 I’ll be presenting my latest film as a lead actor, Love Bees and Fuckery, in different film festivals. The world premiere was last October in New York at the Chelsea Film Festival. I can’t wait for what the future will bring.
