Actress Annick Van Couwenberghe in the short film Mag ik nog even: 'I make drastic choices to protect my daughter'
23-09-2024

Actress Annick Van Couwenberghe stars in the short film Mag ik nog even, playing a mother who has had to swim against the tide in recent years. "Her body and mind are used as a punching bag by various aggressors," says the actress, "a primal force drives her to make drastic choices to protect her daughter.

The role has created a special empathy for the actress: "Although I am lucky to have a loving family and great friends around me, I understand how deep the love for a child can be and how you would protect your child no matter what. I'm a mother myself, so I understand that when a mother is backed into a corner and knows that her daughter may be in danger, she can react in a very deep and radical way.

The short film was directed by Tom Cineger and written by Noah Zayn Mortier. It had its premiere a few days ago and will now go to several festivals.

TV series Dertigers

Annick also stars in the TV series Dertigers, which airs on VRT1 and VRTMAX and is now in its second season (third season has just been finished and is in post-production fase) . The story is about seven friends, most of whom have known each other for years, and the events alternate between drama and comedy. She plays Agnes, the local school cleaning lady who starts an affair with the recently divorced principal. "She tries to be accepted by his daughters and struggles to fit in. Like Agnes, I'm a person who naturally tries to please others - it's part of my nature, but over the years and as I've grown up, I've learned to let go of that desire to please. If you stay true to yourself, you will attract people who like yoù.

Annick's new work includes a feature film script, writing in progress, with a friend/co-writer and a new upcoming project with an Italian/Swiss director together with an acting friend. And I am taking online courses with acting coach Adam Davenport to learn more about the business side of an acting career and to continue to hone my acting skills.

Annick Van Couwenberghe has pursued several projects. She starred in the hit TV series Vloglab #Stories and Billie vs. Benjamin. More recently, she participated in episodes of Move On (new episodes coming soon on VTMgo) and Dertigers, which aired on VRT1 and VRTMAX and whose online version has received millions of views.
