Elijah Knight, protagonist of the Swiss Army Sau: 'Every man has a fear to face'
21-04-2024

Actor Elijah Knight performed  in recent days at the Casino Theater in Winterthur, Zurich with the stand-up show Swiss Army Comedy Show. The actors who performed with Knight included Adrien Borruat, Sergej Nikolic, Juerg Kilchherr, Mate*a, Zwei Stallle mit Gefahle IS Stühle mit Gefühle - the actor uses swear words - Stefanie Alder, Melanie Maisel, and Jeanine Welz.

The themes addressed revolve around recruitment and life in the army: the characters are eccentric and attempt to overcome differences with humor, also struggling against language barriers. Not surprisingly, in some passages the actors use swear words pronounced in various languages, creatively conveying the absurdity of the situation. The song that serves as a leitmotif is Army Sau, a parody of the band Status Quo's song In the Army Now (1986): Army Sau is a play on words because Arm in German means “poor” (Poor pig). Ultimately, the army is portrayed as an ideal place to rediscover one's identity and friends.

“The message should be that, despite being madness, I believe that going into the army can be transformative in a positive way”, says Knight. “We presented a humorous and irreverent view of the context, trying to offer a different and light perspective”. Among the various passages that characterized the evening is: “If you’re afraid of helicopters, it doesn’t mean you’re powerless. Every man has his fears. Mine, for example, are spiders”.

Elijah Knight recently worked on the thriller film The Safe and the successful TV series Unbreak My Heart. For his role in the short film Dracula, Son of the Devil, he won the award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2024 Best International Film Festival. On stage, he has appeared in The American Dream and Die Glasspur. He starred in the TV series Miss Fallaci, about the life of writer Oriana Fallaci - played by Miriam Leone - directed by Giacomo Martelli and set to be released soon.
