Hollywoodtürke 2, the movie comedy interpreted and directed by Murat Ünal

Murat Ünal, actor and director, directed the movie Hollywoodtürke in 2019, which was well received by audiences and critics. The plot is about Alper, an unsuccessful Turkish actor living in Berlin, who pretends to be Italian in order to win his first role and impress a German girl who does not like Turkish guys. The movie is streaming on Disney+.

You directed and starred in Hollywoodtürke. Can you tell us about that experience from both sides of the camera?

So I had to do it because I couldn't find anybody. So in order to make the movie, I decided that if it's just depending on that, I will also play the lead. And it was actually really good because when you're having so many problems to solve behind the camera, you have no time to be nervous when you're acting. So it was actually helpful.

Ünal recently participated in the Berlin Film Festival's Meet & Greet event organized by Crawford Talents, Red Carpet Actors, Black Universe and Luci Lenox's The Actors Home, which aims to create a network between actors, directors and producers. "It's something they should be teaching much more because it's called show business for a reason - he said - the business part is more important than the show part, in my opinion, and the importance of it is not being taught. So I think these networking events are very good because it's a people's business, show business".

What are your plans for the future?  

I'm trying to pitch my new series now to networks and streamers, and I'm preparing Hollywoodtürke 2 to shoot this summer, hopefully.

Murat Ünal has also worked as a director on the short film Süper Tiger Show and the TV series Invisible Me.
