Original Title:
Noah Zayn
Mortier is the screenwriter and actor in the short film Mag ik nog even, about a mother who has had to swim against the
tide in recent years. "The main character, Sophie, embodies the desire to
simply be herself, free of the labels that life has thrown at her," says
the screenwriter, "The story tells of the consequences of an important
decision she made and the ripple effect it had on her loved ones. How selfless
or selfish can a mother be when she is between a rock and a hard place?"
The short film
was directed by Tom Cineger and stars Annick Van Couwenberghe, and it will be participating
in several festivals in the coming weeks. It premiered a few days ago and will
now be shown at several festivals. The process of making the film was complex:
"The funny thing is that I wrote the role of the main protagonist, Sophie,
for myself to play. During the pre-production phase, I actually did a
de-transition, so I had to reassign the role. Fortunately, I met Annick Van
Couwenberghe, a fellow acting student, who impressed me. She was the perfect
choice to play Sophie. I am happy that I was able to play Liam, an atypical
casting for a mostly stereotypical character.
Noah has had
several mentors throughout his career. Actor Manu Bennett challenged him in a
master class, "If you unlock what's blocking you, you'll be a
powerhouse!" Actor Adam Davenport inspired potential: "I have both
male and female life experiences behind me. I'm ready to take the bull by the
horns."
Noah Zayn Mortier's new projects. The actor and screenwriter has several projects in
the works. After graduating from ACT Belgium, he began taking Chubbuck
technique classes taught by Davenport and Gister technique classes taught by
Genoa Davidson and Joe Alberti. He is working on a second short film that will
feature emerging talent. There is also another project written in Dutch. One
story is also in Italian. I'm looking forward to pitching them to the right
people.
